Tech Bros Blindsided Over MAGA’s History Of Embracing Policy Prioritizing The American Worker

In recent days, Elon Musk and his tech bros, like David Sacks, have been shocked by MAGA’s pushback over their embracement of an H1B visa program that would result in rapidly rewarding and extending green cards, leading to big tech being able to hire more foreign-born workers. It is interesting that Musk is shocked by MAGA’s pushback to his embracement of the H1B program. President Trump has been criticizing the H1B program since 2016 due to the program’s results of employers hiring cheap immigrant labor that results in lower wages and fewer job opportunities for Americans. In October 2020, President Trump signed an executive order that targeted American companies that abused the H1B program to import cheap labor. Then, in May 2023, Senior Trump Advisor Stephen Miller criticized Biden’s administration for canceling Trump’s H1B reforms to appease the Left’s big tech donors. During his 2024 RNC Convention speech, Incoming Vice President JD Vance laid out policies to protect American workers from imported foreign labor. Hopefully, Elon Musk will realize that protecting American workers is a policy most Trump voters embrace.

President Trump has long criticized the H1B program. In 2016, President Trump told Megyn Kelly, “The H-1B program is neither high-skilled nor immigration: these are temporary foreign workers, imported from abroad, for the explicit purpose of substituting for American workers at lower pay. I remain totally committed to eliminating rampant, widespread H-1B abuse and ending outrageous practices.”

In October 2020, President Trump signed an executive order relating to the H1B Visa program. Trump’s order read, “President Donald J. Trump and his Administration are protecting American workers by reforming requirements governing the H-1B visa program…DHS is also taking action to rein in “shadow,” third-party employers who use the H-1B program to displace American workers and to reduce the validity period for H-1Bs used by these “shadow” employers, which will ensure more frequent vetting for compliance with H-1B program requirements.”

President Trump’s executive order also limited “an employer’s ability to replace workers with cheap foreign labor and help ensure wages are not suppressed by the presence of low-cost foreign workers.”

Then, in May 2023, Senior Trump Advisor Stephen Miller criticized Biden’s administration for canceling Trump’s H1B reforms to appease the Left’s big tech donors. In a post, Miller wrote, “Biden axed Trump Admin H1B reforms which eliminated its use for cheap labor, raised wage to stop displacement, outlawed substitution & replaced H1B lottery with highest-paying offer wins (further precluding substitution). Regs were scrapped & now Big Tech is replacing Americans.”

MAGA’s defense of the American worker continued during the 2024 campaign. During his 2024 RNC Convention speech, Incoming Vice President JD Vance said, “We’re done importing foreign labor! We’re going to fight for American citizens and their good jobs and their good wages!”

President Trump’s commitment to putting the American workers first is the bedrock of the MAGA movement. Trump’s voters will never embrace a policy that floods America’s jobs with cheap labor. Hopefully, Elon Musk will realize that MAGA will never turn its back on the American worker.
