r/vancouver – Why does everything Close so Early?

Hey Everyone!

I moved to Vancouver in April of this year and one thing I’ve observed is that everything closes so early. I do know the pandemic is a factor, but from purusing the internet I have found this was something that was pre-pandemic too.

Could anyone shed some light as to why a great market like granville island closes at 6, even during a holiday season? It just seems like a missed opportunity to get people that work 9-5 to shop.

Even coffee shops! I would totally sit at a coffee shop, sipping coffee, having pasteries and deserts well untill 10pm if I could. Hell, I’d take 8pm.

Any inisghts and persectives are welcomed. I love Vancouver and love that its my home 🙂
