After what happened on January 6, 2021, Cassidy Hutchinson became known as the “star witness” for the January 6th Commission, which was controlled by Democrats. Based on her testimony, the Oversight Subcommittee appears to have intended to subpoena Hutchinson. The subpoena was reportedly thwarted by Representative Mike Johnson, the House Speaker, according to a Breitbart article from Tuesday.
After January 6, 2021, Cassidy Hutchinson served as the “star witness” for the January 6th Commission, which was controlled by Democrats. There was talk of subpoenaing Hutchinson to testify before the Oversight Subcommittee. However, Breitbart reported on Tuesday that House Speaker Rep. Mike Johnson prevented that from happening.
Cassidy Hutchinson was the “star witness” for the Democrat-controlled January 6th Commission following the events of January 6, 2021, however the Republican-controlled House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight has spent the last two years disproving her evidence due to her many contradictions and plain lies.
There was talk of subpoenaing Hutchinson to testify before the Oversight Subcommittee. However, House Speaker Mike Johnson reportedly stopped that from happening, as reported by Breitbart on Tuesday.
According to Breitbart, the most current final report from the Oversight Subcommittee, which was released on January 6, has 268 mentions of Hutchinson by name but makes no mention of interrogating her.
“Johnson (R-LA) personally intervened to keep the subcommittee from sending a subpoena to Hutchinson,” Breitbart said, citing an unnamed source. “According to Johnson’s statement to Breitbart News, that claim is obviously not true.”
The House Administration Subcommittee found Hutchinson guilty based on her testimony on June 28, 2022, in which she admitted that she had drafted a January 6, 2021, tweet that President Trump could have sent instructing rioters to vacate the Capitol. The original wording of that draft tweet read, “ANYONE WHO ENTERED THE CAPITOL ILLEGALLY WITHOUT PROPER AUTHORITY SHOULD LEAVE IMMEDIATELY”—the word “ILLEGALLY” was removed.
During her testimony, Hutchinson stated that she had been instructed to write the note by then-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and one of the president’s lawyers, Eric Herschmann. But Herschmann claimed that the note’s authorship was him and that Hutchinson was being dishonest.
In October, the House Administration Subcommittee announced that it had retained the services of a handwriting expert to examine the memo and ascertain its authorship.

At the time, the House Administration Subcommittee stated that “the evidence supports my opinion that the handwriting that appears on the Questioned Document was written in the same hand as the exemplars [Herschmann]” after a certified handwriting analyst had conducted a thorough analysis.
In a press release, Subcommittee on Oversight Chair Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., stated that “this new evidence provided by an independent, Certified Questioned Document Examiner, not only contradicts Ms. Hutchinson’s numerous claims that she penned the note, but also exposes the Select Committee’s willingness to accept all her testimonies without corroboration or further investigation.”
Additionally, the subcommittee discovered that Liz Cheney, who was the vice chair of the commission on January 6th, had private communications with Hutchinson and may have tried to persuade her to dismiss her lawyer.
It has also been extensively reported that Hutchinson was caught revising her testimony at the Jan. 6 Committee hearings.
On June 28, 2022, Hutchinson testified that Trump attempted to take control of the steering wheel while he was being taken to the White House after his address on January 6, 2022. She went on to say that the ex-president also attacked another agent.
According to a subsequent probe by Loudermilk’s committee, nevertheless, she failed to disclose that interaction in her prior three transcripts dated February 23, 2022, March 7, 2022, and May 17, 2022.
Cheney might face charges of witness tampering, according to the Oversight Subcommittee’s recommendation that the FBI look into the matter.
