Trump Keeps VP Pick Under Wraps Until GOP Convention

Millions of Americans are now holding onto their hats as Donald Trump remains mum on his 2024 VP pick. 

In an interview with Scripps News published on Thursday, Trump hinted at the possibility that he would announce his running mate at the Republican convention in July in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“That’s probably a pretty good chance, I would say,” the presumptive Republican presidential nominee quipped.

In 2016, Trump announced his then-vice presidential choice, Mike Pence, three days before the GOP convened in Cleveland, Ohio.

There were many name suggestions for Trump’s possible running mates. Unfortunately, the former president has been careful in commenting publicly on any of the names hinted at, leaving everyone holding their breaths.

Trump’s potential running mates have also joined him in his bogus New York trial early this week. 

Among them was Senator J.D. Vance (R-Ohio), who appeared with Trump in Manhattan court last Monday.

On Tuesday, two other personalities rumored to be on Trump’s shortlist, Governor Doug Burgum (R-North Dakota) and former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, attended the trial.

Aside from these men, among the names who are possibly in Trump’s consideration were Senator Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), Dr. Ben Carson, and former Democrat lawmaker Tulsi Gabbard (I-Hawaii).

North Dakota governor Doug Burgum told the New York Post there could be about 50 names on Trump’s list as VP contenders. 

In an interview with News12, Trump noted at least four names as his possible running mate: Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, Senators Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and JD Vance (R-Ohio), and House GOP Conference chair Elise Stefanik (R-New York).

But Trump refused to give more clues. 

“We have so many, I don’t want to do that, we have so many.”

“We have many people who would do a fantastic job.”

The former president also responds to Nikki Haley’s remarks that she would vote for Trump in November because President Biden has been a “catastrophe.”

“I think she’s going to be on our team, because we have a lot of the same ideas, the same thoughts,” Trump told News 12. 

“I appreciate her, what she said.”

“She’s a very capable person and I’m sure she’s going to be on our team in some form, absolutely,” he added.

However, Trump maintained that his former rival is not among the choices to be his running mate. 

Sources close to Trump shared that the ongoing Biden trials have affected their selection process.

“As far as I know there’s been no formal vetting or anything like that,” added another individual with knowledge of how the VP selection process is playing out.
